Your website must be "HOSTed" on the web SERVER to which the DNS points.
Dedicated servers are used for websites with high traffic volume. Websites like e-Bay are hosted on multiple, redundant dedicated servers.
Shared servers simultaneously host dozens if not hundreds of websites.
